Yeovil, Sturrock adamant Yeovil won’t worry about relegation

Sturrock adamant Yeovil won’t worry about relegation

Yeovil Town manager, Paul Sturrock, told The Western Gazette that the Glovers will not be flirting with the bottom at Christmas.

It is safe to say that the Glovers have endured a turbulent few years and are currently suffering with an unprecedented injury crisis.

With 10 first team players currently injured, Sturrock has been unable to name his preferred starting 11 at all this season.

The Glovers lie in 22nd place in the table following just one win and one draw from their opening seven games-a poor return from a team who suffered relegation back in May.

However, the Yeovil manager continues to remain positive despite the undoubted frustration at the lack of luck he has had.

He said: “”By Christmas I’m very hopeful of not worrying about being near the bottom. Getting healthy is the key to that though.

“We want to finish up as high as possible. Where that is who knows. We just want to get the team healthy first and playing right before we talk about where we’re going to finish.

“If you did a list of managers who knew their strongest team I’d probably be bottom of the pile.

“Until I get all my players back and we can review everyone on the training ground and people are vying for positions, it’s very difficult to determine how the season is going to unfold.

“It’s been a steep learning curve for me and the coaching staff.”

Next up, Yeovil travel to Crawley Town in what will be an interesting battle between two sides that were playing League One football last season.

Looking to avoid a third successive relegation, Sturrock will be hoping he can at least welcome back key players such as midfielder Kevin Dawson and captain Ryan Dickson in the coming weeks.
