Evans won’t be leaving Rotherham for Peterborough

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has told the Sheffield Star once and for all that he isn’t leaving the club. He has been heavily linked to the vacant job available at League One side Peterborough United.

52-year-old Evans was once the heavy odds-on favourite to take over from recently departed Dave Robertson at London Road. Evans has spoken in the past of his admiration for the club and has a family house in Wansford, just outside of Peterborough. Speaking after Tuesday night’s 2-1 league defeat at Championship league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion, Evans insists he has unfinished business at the New York Stadium,

“My job at Rotherham United is far from finished.

As long as (chairman) Tony Stewart tells me I’m the manager of this football club, I’ll be the manager of this football club.”

In the past week or so, Evans were overtaken in the betting by former Stevenage manager Graham Westley to be appointed with Posh. The Peterborough Telegraph reports that Westley has attended the last two Peterborough games and is expected to be appointed by owner Darragh MacAnthony.

However, caretaker boss Grant McCann will again remain in charge for this weekend’s home clash with high-flying Walsall. He won his first game in charge with a comprehensive 5-1 away victory against Oldham Athletic last time out.
