Plymouth boss wants clarity on GPS devices

Plymouth Argyle manager, Derek Adams, has voiced his concerns over performance analysis equipment worn by players on match days, BBC Sport has reported.

The League Two match between the Pilgrims and Wycombe Wanderers suffered a seven minute delay as decisions were made on the devices.

Plymouth visited the Chairboys and ran out 2-1 winners to cement their place in the top three but controversy surrounded the host’s technology.

After the match Adams told BBC Devon: “They (Wycombe) had provided an email to say that they had clarification from the League that they were able to start with it. But you’re not allowed to wear rings or anything on the pitch.”

The Football League have confirmed that Wycombe are permitted to use the equipment and have commented on their use after FIFA allowed their use at the beginning of the season.

They said: “Any club seeking to use EPTS devices is required to notify the League and provide relevant details relating to how they will be worn and used. To date, 19 clubs, including Wycombe Wanderers, have registered their intention to use this device.”

The rules on use of such technology were adjusted before the start of the season but there are few clubs who have opted to analyse performance in this manner and so are still somewhat of a taboo.

Wycombe Wanderers saw their impressive unbeaten record come to an end on Saturday but still sit pretty in fourth in the table as they continue their good form following last season’s Play-Off final heartbreak.
