QPR striker “will stay on the radar” at Newcastle

Newcastle United manager Steve McLaren has admitted that Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin “will stay on the radar” despite the transfer window being closed, according to the Mirror.

The 26-year-old attracted a host of interest from top-flight clubs after a fantastic season in the Premier League with QPR last season.

In 35 appearances for the R’s during the last campaign, Austin found the net on 18 occasions and helped out with seven assists. He’s carried his form into this season, scoring four in five games, including a goal in QPR’s 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Speaking before Newcastle’s game against West Ham on Monday, McLaren is quoted by the Mirror as saying “he has been on Newcastle’s radar from the second half of last season and during the summer, and he will stay on the radar, definitely.”

QPR will be looking to keep hold of their top striker in January, particularly if his goalscoring form continues to impress. Chris Ramsey’s side have enjoyed a great start to the season, currently sitting in 7th place after the weekend’s defeat knocked them out of the play-off places.
