Bowyer says Blackburn were the “better team by far”

Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer has said that his “main feeling is one of major, major disappointment” following his side’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham on Sunday, the Lancashire Telegraph reports.

Rovers remain third bottom in the Championship after goals from Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele extended Blackburn’s winless run in the league to six games.

A man of the match performance by Andy Lonergan in the Fulham goal kept Blackburn out, until a Jordan Rhodes strike beat him in the 68th minute. Lonergan was beaten again when Grant Hanley’s effort appeared to cross the line but the officials were not convinced.

As quoted by the Lancashire Telegraph, Bowyer showed his disappointment after the game by saying “we’ve come here, against an expensive side, and we’ve been the better team by far.”

Bowyer goes onto say that “overall it was our best performance of the season but it’s also been the same as what we performed at Brighton for a spell, and certainly Cardiff at home, and Huddersfield second half, when we created loads of chances. It’s just the actual converting of them.

“There were was a foul on Grant Hanley for the first goal, but it was too easy, and then I felt we let Steeley (Jason Steele) down for the second goal. He’d made a double save and then it stills drop to Dembele.”

Despite the obvious disappointment, Bowyer praises how his side reacted to going two goals behind. “It was a fabulous response from our lads and Lonergan was man of the match by a long way.” he told the press after the game.
