Chesterfield host U’s in league tie

Colchester United travel to Chesterfield United this weekend as they look to claim their first win of the 2015/16 campaign.

The U’s travel to the Proact Stadium this Saturday with Chesterfield currently sat in eighth place whilst Tony Hume’s Colchester side are propped up by bottom side Crewe, who sit just one point below the U’s.

Colchester United fell to a 3-2 loss eleven days ago against Northampton as Marc Richard’s 85th minute winner cancelled out Macauley Bonne’s 82nd minute equaliser. The U’s went 1-0 down following Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s strike before Bonne’s first goal of the afternoon in the 32nd minute. Ryan Watson regained the home side’s advantage before Colchester thought they had a share of the points as Bonne equalised 8 minutes from time but Marc Richard had other plans and his late winner consigned Colchester to a second loss of the season.

Chesterfield have had an even start to the season at home with their three matches at the Proact Stadium. They won 3-1 against Barnslay in front of a crowd of 8,117 before drawing four games later against Rochdale. They lost their most recent match – their opening match of September – against Wigan 3-2 as two goals in the final three minutes, including a 90th minute, meant the Spites were consigned to a first home loss of the season.

Previous Meetings:

The two sides have met a total of 56 times dating back to the 1958/59 season when they met for the first time. Their first meeting ended as a 2-2 draw but the U’s won 2-0 at home in the FA Cup before following it up with a 1-0 win in April 59.

Last season they met two times in the Sky Bet League One. In October, the U’s won 2-0 at the WHCS but mid-way through April they were drummed 6-0 at the Proact Stadium.

Squad News:

Tony Humes’ latest signings Marvin Sordell and Jamie Jones could all make appearances.

Striker Sordell signed a permanent deal on Thursday before keeper Jamie Jones signed a loan deal keeping him in Essex until December.
