Leeds United: Rösler and Cellino – a marriage

There are many things that Massimo Cellino has reportedly done to managers, usually sacking them being done with the speed and precision of an assassin. However, never has he ‘married’ one until now; yet the BBC say this is the case.

Speaking to the BBC Football Focus programme, Leeds United’s head coach Uwe Rösler, who is Cellino’s fifth manager at Leeds United, says his relationship is “like a marriage.” In a shortened video release,  an extended interview to be shown on Football Focus tomorrow at 12:10, Rösler outlines a couple of things that lead to the Rösler/Cellino marriage.

When asked about the state of the club on his arrival

“When I come in in May, I’m purely focused on my working duties. My working duties are clearly described by Mr Cellino.”

Talking about the input that he has

“I think it will only work successfully when the head coach has an important impact.”

When talking about the kind of person Cellino is

“A person who leads a football club over 30 years in Serie A, he must have knowledge about players, about leading a football club.”

Rösler then went on to end the interview by formalising the idea behind his union with Cellino saying,

“It is like a marriage, you have healthy discussions. It is about you give and you take.”

Whilst it may be a marriage with growing love between the two, I’m still betting that there is only one that wears the trousers.
