Swindon re-sign Louis Thompson on loan

Swindon Town has today confirmed that former midfielder Louis Thompson has re-joined the club on loan from Norwich City. The club’s official website confirmed the news this afternoon and that he will wear the number 18 shirt.

20-year-old Thompson has penned a deal at the County Ground until 18th December 2015 in what is being officially described as a youth loan. He began his career with the Wiltshire club before impressing new Premier League side Norwich City, before loaning him back to Mark Cooper’s men for the remainder of the campaign. He will again link up with brother Nathan, who is a defender for the Robins.

The energetic midfielder was an integral part of the squad which reached the Play-Off Final last season, and his return will only boost the club in their quests to reach the Championship. He made 38 appearances for the club last season, only to suffer injury problems in the final part of the calendar. He returned from injury to make a brief appearance at Wembley in the Play-Off Final defeat to Preston North End.

With Kevin Stewart suffering an injury which means he’ll be out of action for a lengthy period of time, Thompson is expected to make his debut as soon as he receives clearance. He has struggled to break into the side at Carrow Road under Alex Neil, and wasn’t handed a squad number in pre-season. It was expected that he’d move to a Championship side on a temporary deal, but has jumped at the chance to re-join his former club.
