Colchester bag Sordell

Colchester United have today confirmed the signing of former Burnley striker Marvin Sordell on a free transfer, reports the club’s official website.

Sordell was released by Burnley at the end of the summer transfer window, and will sign an initial one year contract.

The 24-year-old striker joins the U’s in what could be considered a shock move for the once Premier League striker, and boss Tony Humes could not be happier with his latest recruit.

“We have finally managed to find the striker that we have been looking for,

“I think it’s a real coup for the club, because he was playing in the Premier League last season and was in their squad in the Championship for the first few weeks of this season.

“He’s a natural goalscorer,”

Sordell is also looking forward to getting started at Colchester, citing the prospect of regular football as a key reason behind joining.

“I’ve come to Colchester, because I just want to play football really.

“There’s not a lot more in it than that. I want to come here and enjoy playing football.”
