Leeds United: departed attacker points finger at club

Nicky Ajose, recently sold by Leeds United to Swindon Town, has pointed an accusatory finger at the Whites according to a report in the Yorkshire Post.

Ajose was signed by Leeds from Peterborough for £150,000 in August 2014 but his career really didn’t get off the ground at Elland Road, leading to feelings of frustration for the Bury-born 23-year old. After featuring in the opening three games of the 2014/15 Championship season, Ajose was left out of the squad for the next 15 games before a loan moved was secured for him to Crewe Alexandra where he made 27 appearances, scoring eight goals and setting up five goal assists.

Speaking of his lack of opportunity at Elland Road, Ajose said, “I don’t feel I had anywhere near an opportunity (at Leeds), it would have been very easy to stay there and not really do anything for the rest of the two years of my contract…Maybe I just didn’t fit. It’s one of those things.”

Ajose was given a brief opportunity by Leeds United head coach Uwe Rösler to impress at the start of the friendly games but the decision was quickly made to not take him onto the Austrian and Norwegian leg of the friendly games. With his cards obviously being marked, Ajose knew his time at Elland Road was limited, saying, “They didn’t want me there but it’s not just as simple as that to get out of a football club now. That’s why it took me until one minute to six on the Tuesday.”

Ajose’s transfer to Swindon paid immediate dividends with him scoring in a 3-1 win at the weekend over former loan club Crewe leading the striker to say, “I’ve not played any competitive games or been training at as high a level as this at Leeds. I’ve been with the Under-18s or the Under-21s – whoever they shoved me with really.”

With chances few and far between at Elland Road, it was best that he went elsewhere to rebuild his career. However, the treatment he received whilst with the Whites has obviously left a bitter taste in the mouth of Nicky Ajose.
