Doncaster: Dickov sacked after poor start

The managerial sack race continues with Doncaster Rovers’ Paul Dickov sacked today after Rovers’ poor start to the season, as reported by many sources including the BBC.

Doncaster released a club statement saying that Dickov had “left his position” at the South Yorkshire club with the reason given as “performance to date.” The club statement went on to say that,

“The Board are ambitious for a top six finish and that is, and will remain our aim. The club will now seek applications for the post on a permanent basis. The club will not rush into making any decision, the recruitment process will be thorough and we will ensure that we appoint the strongest candidate for the position.” Doncaster Rovers: club statement – September 8, 2015

Dickov (above) had been Doncaster manager for 841 days and had been in charge of the club for 113 games. During this time Doncaster had a record of 36 wins, 28 draws and 49 losses – giving Dickov an overall win% of 31.9%. It was ultimately the weight of these losses, and the indifferent start to the 2015/16 League One season that has seen the club pick up only six points from their opening six games, which has led to the downfall of Dickov at Doncaster.

in the short term, Doncaster Rovers have placed assistant, Rob Jones, in charge and mentioned that they “would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Dickov for his efforts on and off the pitch, and wish him well for the future.”
