Swansea recall Barrow from Blackburn loan

Championship side Blackburn Rovers have today confirmed on their official website that Modou Barrow’s loan spell from Swansea City has come to an end. The Premier League club has recalled the winger following injuries to their squad.

Nathan Dyer made a deadline day loan move to Premier League rivals Leicester City, so boss Garry Monk needs more strength in depth in that area of the pitch. Andre Ayew, Jefferson Montero and Wayne Routledge are the only options Monk has in that area, and Barrow provides him with a reassuring fourth.

22-year-old Barrow, who this weekend earned his second cap for the Gambia national team in their defeat to Cameroon, made five appearances during his time at Ewood Park. He was sent out on a three-month loan, but the Welsh club have activated the 28-day released clause. This means that a player can be recalled from a loan at any point inside the first month.

Barrow arrived at the Liberty Stadium from Swedish side Ostersunds last summer in a deal believed to be worth £1.5million. He earned himself a new four-year contract in January and was sent out on loan to gain further experience. With Blackburn already limited in terms of their options, it comes as a blow to manager Gary Bowyer, who no doubt would’ve wanted Barrow in his squad for this weekend’s trip to Fulham.
