Barnsley add striker Jackson to their squad

Barnsley have announced on their official website the signing of striker Simeon Jackson on a short-term contract. The deal is until 3rd January 2016, with the potential to increase that until the end of the season.

Speaking to the media earlier this morning, manager Lee Johnson was delighted to add the Canadian international to their squad, who had been training with the club since earlier this summer,

“He’s been with us from the start of the season and he’s been excellent. He’s been a good lad to have around the place and he’s a good finisher.

He’s somebody who’s got that experience of promotions and scoring goals at this level. He gives us another string to our bow. It leaves us with four or five strikers to choose from.”

Jackson had a spell in League One last season with Coventry City and scored three goals in the process. He made his name as a goalscorer in the 2006/07 in the Conference with Rushden & Diamonds. His goals then earned him a move to the Football League with Gillingham in League One. After a slow first season, he went on to reach double figures in the next two campaigns. That earned him a move to Championship side Norwich City and helped them earn promotion to the Premier League. He spent two years in the top flight before more recent spells in Germany with Eintracht Braunschweig and then in the Championship with Millwall.

Jackson was pleased to finally earn a deal at Oakwell, having been on trial since the end of July, he gave his first interview as a Barnsley player on their official website,

“I’m buzzing to finally get in the door. I want to say thanks to the gaffer and the staff for letting me be a part of what they’re doing. I’ve been here a while so I’m delighted to finally be a part of the squad.

I’ve been in with the lads, so I’ve had time to get to know everyone. They’re a great group to be in and be working with. There are some great young players with loads of potential and talent.”

It remains to be seen if Jackson will make his debut for Barnsley in tomorrow’s home clash with Shrewsbury Town, as they are still awaiting confirmation from the relevant authorities.
