Championship Player of the Month nominations: August

The arrival of September means we are already one month into the new season and it has been a great start to the season across the Football League. Plenty of players have hit the ground running in the Championship but which four players have been shortlisted for the first Player of the Month award of the season.

Ryan Fraser – Ipswich Town

The young Scottish winger joined Ipswich on loan from Bournemouth as part of the deal that saw Tyrone Mings sold to the Premier League club and Fraser has become an instant fans favourite at Portman Road. His pace and trickery has been unplayable at times and he has contributed to the Tractor Boys great start to the season. With two goals to his name including a sweet strike against Preston and three assists, Fraser could be the difference for Ipswich this season.

Stephen Gleeson – Birmingham City

Gleeson appears to have now settled into this Birmingham team and the side a re reaping the rewards of it with him playing some of the best football of his career. He has controlled the play from the middle of the park and also managed to get forward and pop up with a couple of goals. Both his strikes against Derby and Milton Keynes were of the highest order.

Michael Keane – Burnley

Burnley may not have jumped right back into life back in the Championship but eight points to their name is a good enough start and Keane has played a massive part in the opening month of the season. Now a regular starter for the Clarets, the defender is happy with the ball at his feet and provided a calming influence on the Burnley defence. His three headed goals have also contributed and make up half of Burnley’s tally so far this season.

Kazenga LuaLua

LuaLua has spent long periods of his time at Brighton as an impact player used sparingly from the bench. Manager Chris Hughton has renewed faith in the playmaker and has been rewarded with some fantastic performances. He already has three goals to his name from the opening month of the season, which include the winning strikes against both Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers to help Brighton sit top of the table come the end of August.

The winner of the Player and Manager of the Month awards for August will be revealed on Friday.
