Birmingham and Bolton were both unsuccessful in a deadline day move for Anthony Stokes, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Stokes’ previous stint in English football was unsuccessful, as he scored just four times in 61 games, but his time up north has been far more fruitful.
He’s scored 58 in 135 for Celtic, which is a much more impressive record, but has reportedly been told he is free to leave the club.
The loan window opens next week, so there is still the option that both sides could make an offer to sign the forward on loan.
Neil Lennon, Bolton manager, has managed Stokes before at Celtic, and was hoping to pair him Zach Clough, who has been Bolton’s shining light this year.
