Barton Beaming To Have Made His Portsmouth Debut

Portsmouth midfielder Adam Barton has spoken of his pride at making his debut for the League Two side.

Summer signing Barton started last nights Johnstone’s Paint Trophy game against Exeter City, featuring in a much-changed Pompey side.

The 24-year-old arrived from League One Coventry City in June during Paul Cook’s overhaul of the club. However, a combination of a groin injury and the impressive form of Portsmouth’s midfield has kept him out of the side.

Cook though trusted Barton enough to play him in his unnatural position of centre-back, adding some experience to a very youthful Pompey team. Despite being played away from his central midfield home, Barton told the official website he was pleased to get some game time:

“I’ve been working hard with the physios and now I feel absolutely fine and raring to go. I was playing out of position, but at this moment I was just after the game time. This match was another step forward for me – although hopefully next time it’ll be in the centre of midfield.”

Barton and Portsmouth face Accrington Stanley at Fratton Park on Saturday, lying fourth in League Two.
