Rowett suggests “managers transfer window”

Birmingham manager Gary Rowett has told the Birmingham Mail that he thinks clubs should be restricted to appointing managers and coaching staff in a window similar to the transfer market.

The Blues boss is an advocate for the transfer window closing before the start of the season and suggested that it had to be discussed by the game’s top table. He told the Birmingham Mail:

“There’s a lot of debate to be had that the transfer window should shut, you know, a day before the first game of the season, maybe”

Speaking after the window closed on Tuesday evening Rowett, who has been at the helm of the Blues since October last year, on the subject of a managers window said:

“I also think there should be a window for managers and staff as well, it should be the same.

“I mean, there’s a case of Gary Bowyer at the moment where there are reports that he’d been sacked, which I find absolutely ridiculous.”

Rowett has turned things around at Birmingham since taking over last season and they have made a solid start to season. They are unbeaten so far winning two games and drawing two.

On deadline day it was a quiet affair for the Blues with no incomings and Nick Townsend and Wes Thomas. Townsend joins Barnsley on a three-year deal, whilst Thomas joins Swindon on loan.
