Reading set for stadium name change

Reading are in talks to change the name of their stadium according to BBC News.

The Madejski Stadium is set to be renamed announced owner Lady Sasima Srivikorn. She told BBC Radio Berkshire that she is in talks with a number of companies in an attempt to bring more sponsorship into the Championship club.

The current name of the stadium is a tribute to current co-chairman Sir John Madejski and has been called that since it was opened in August 1998.

The owner said “I know to have the naming right on the stadium can fetch quite a lot of money”.

She went on to add “There are many companies that would like to have that naming right, so that is one way of making the money come in.”

Reading would follow the likes of Derby County who renamed Pride Park to the iPro Stadium, something she described as ‘an easy way to raise income’.

The fans have reacted in very different ways, some have reacted positively to the business decision but others want Sir John Madejski’s name to remain due to his impact at the Berkshire club (see below).
