Keiren Westwood extends Sheffield Wednesday stay

Sheffield Wednesday have announced that goalkeeper Keiren Westwood has signed a contract extension at the club. The new deal runs through until the summer of 2018.

Westwood, a Republic of Ireland international initially signed a two-year contract when he moved on a free transfer from Sunderland to Hillsborough in July 2014. After an impressive string of performance in his first season he became a fans favourite.

He won the Owls’ Player of the Year award, was named as the goalkeeper in the Championship Team of the Year and played 43 Championship games as Sheffield Wednesday equaled a club record for clean sheets.

He was also reported to be the subject of interest from Premier League clubs this summer. The 30-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a long term deal as the Owls target their return to the Premier League.
