Chelsea agree a deal to sign Reading defender

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Reading defender Michael Hector for a fee of £4 million, according to Sky Sports News.

The 23-year-old was a key part of Reading’s defence during the Championship campaign last season. He featured in 41 of the Royals’ 46 games during the last campaign, scoring three and assisting two.

He is also an international player, following his debut for Jamaica this summer. He has gone onto make four appearances for the country.

Chelsea are looking to sign young defenders as they look at long-term options. They have recently failed in their attempts to sign John Stones from Everton, despite offering to pay over £30 million for the centre-back.

Chelsea and Crystal Palace were both looking at signing the defender earlier today, it now appears that the Premier League champions have won the race to agree a deal with his club.

Both parties will be looking to finalise a deal for the defender soon, with the transfer window shutting close at 6pm today.
