Woods secures move to Griffin Park

It is reported that Woods is having a medical at Griffin Park this morning and is due to sign on before the window slams shut at 6pm, the fee is rumoured to be around 750k.

It is more than likely there will be add-ons linked it with that original fee, the club know what Ryan can become if his development continues at Brentford. I’ve watched Ryan every week for about 3 years now and his growth has been superb, it was not long ago he was playing right-back for Town due to a shortage of players.

Town picked up Woods after he was released by rivals Walsall, Ryan originates from Birmingham and is easily recognized due to his strong accent. Woods made his debut against Oldham in 2013, so in the space of two years he has gone from a 19 year-old deemed surplus to requirements to a highly sought after midfielder. The news of Ryan’s departure will be painful for Town fans, they have gone through a difficult window also seeing captain Connor Goldson leave for Brighton.

If you’re a Brentford fan and want to know what to expect from the ‘Ginger Pirlo’, get ready to see a young centre-midfielder that has proven he can boss the midfield, he’s done against the likes of Palace and Chelsea and will be doing it in the Championship. Woodsy’s footwork and vision is extraordinary, he is also quick on his feet. Don’t expect goals from him though, he’s only picked up one goal for Town and that was against MK Dons two years ago. Woods is the type of player that would rather set-up a goal than score, maybe this part of his game will change over time.

A move to Brentford is fantastic for Woods,

The chant ‘Don’t sell our Woods’ rung around the Greenhous Meadow last weekend, Woods was Town’s key player and it is a sad sight to see him go. But Town fans should be thankful that himself and Goldson stayed with us and helped get back up into League One. Good luck in the future, super Ryan Woods!
