Brentford: Bees bring in Red Bull Salzburg striker on loan

In news just announced by the club, via their official Twitter feed (see below), Brentford have just announced the signing of Austrian international striker, Marco Djuricin on a season-long loan from Red Bull Salzburg. The Club’s website report that the 22-year old arrived in London and had a medical on Friday, 28 August with the deal, subject to necessary clearances, being completed today. The youngster will be a Brentford player for the rest of the season as the Bees look to plug the hole left by Andre Gray’s departure to Burnley.

The striker, born in Vienna, came through the youth ranks at Rapid Vienna and Austria Vienna, making the step up into full-time football with German side Hertha Berlin with whom he played in the top two tiers of German football. He then joined SK Strum Graz in 2013, with whom he scored 24 goals in 44 games before signing for current parent club Red Bull Salzburg in January of this year. This season he has scored a hat-trick in a 7-0 destruction of lower-league side Deutschlandsberger in an ÖFB-CUP game

Marinus Dijkhuizen welcomed Djuricin to the club saying,

“With Andre Gray leaving us, we needed a new striker who was similar in style. And with Marco we have found a very good replacement. He is used to playing at a very high level and has experience of international football. He is a good finisher but also has specific qualities that can suit us, like running in behind defenders. With Philipp Hofmann also available, I am very happy we have now two quality strikers of differing styles.” Marinus Dijkhuizen; club website – August 31, 2015

Last season, the 2014/15 Austrian Bundesliga campaign, Djuricin scored 13 goals and provided three assists for Red Bull Salzburg, the goals coming at the rate of one every 170 minutes. Additionally, he also scored six goals in the ÖFB-CUP and one in Salzburg’s Europa League campaign. This total of 20 goals in 37 appearances comes at a rate of a goal every 134 minutes, showing that the youngster certainly knows where the back of the net is when it comes to scoring.
