Italian clubs line-up move for Leeds’ Giuseppe Bellusci

Italian Serie A sides Atalanta and Bologna have reportedly contacted Leeds United to enquiry about central defender Giuseppe Bellusci, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The 26-year-old joined Leeds last summer during owner Massimo Cellino’s first summer in charge of the club. He went onto make 30 appearances for the Whites last season, scoring two but picking up 12 yellow cards and two reds along the way.

He has played in three of Leeds’ first five games this season, missing the games against Sheffield Wednesday and Reading due to the busy schedule that Leeds found themselves in.

Bellusci has divided fan opinion this season, with some calling for him to be dropped whilst others believe that he should be starting every game. The defender was part of the infamous ‘sicknote six’ last season, where six of the club’s players ruled themselves out injured the day before Leeds travelled down to face Charlton.

Previously in this transfer window, Italian lower league side Ascoli had identified Bellusci as their ‘dream signing’ but admitted that they would not have the finances to sign the player.

A deal for the defender might be costly for any club looking to purchase him, with The72 reporting earlier in the summer that owner Massimo Cellino will not sell the centre-back for anything less than a seven-figure sum. A number of changes have come into force since then, so it remains to be seen whether Cellino will shift his position on this.
