League 2 Midweek Preview

York v Yeovil

SturrockYork City have made a very poor start to the League 2 season, with two defeats from the opening two league matches. It was not a particularly promising summer for City, particularly as they lost key strikers Ryan Jarvis and Wes Fletcher, and on paper their team appeared to be lacking a player who could consistently put the ball in the back of the net. Thus far, this seems to be a fair observation to make – a 3-0 opening day defeat against Wycombe was followed up by a 2-1 home defeat against Hartlepool, despite York having eight shots on target to Hartlepool’s five.

Yeovil have started this season as they spent most of the last two, by losing football matches. On the opening day, they looked to have made a brilliant comeback as, after being 2-0 down, they were level on the hour mark away at Exeter City, but they failed to see the match through and with less than ten minute remaining conceded to lose 3-2. This was followed up with a poor home performance against Bristol Rovers, where they could only muster one shot on target and fell to a late 1-0 defeat.

Both teams are so far pointless and this is therefore a very important game in order to attempt to raise morale and start to put a run of results together. However, York and Yeovil have been very disappointing so far and it is hard to see either side really grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck to win, so I think the points will be shared.
