David Marshall, David Marshall in Cardiff squad for trip to Blackburn

David Marshall in Cardiff squad for trip to Blackburn

Despite being heavily linked with a move to West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff City boss Russell Slade has confirmed to Wales Online that David Marshall is in the squad for tomorrow night’s game at Ewood Park.

Marshall has been serving a three match ban carrying on from last season, meaning he is yet to make an appearance in the campaign so far. The Premier League side supposedly made an offer in the region of £4.5million for the Scottish international but speculation now appears to be dying down. The fact he hasn’t handed in a transfer request or refused to play will only serve as positive news for Cardiff City fans. The possibility of him remaining at the club appears to be slightly increasing.

It is believed that the Bluebirds are only interested in bids of at least £5million plus add-ons. The Telegraph did report last week how a £5million fee had been agreed, but there appears to be little word from either club since that time. However Slade is more than happy for any transfer talk to decrease in the build-up to the September 1st transfer deadline,

“Nothing has changed for eight days. From my point of view the longer that goes on the better.”

Former Brentford goalkeeper Simon Moore has started between the sticks in the clubs matches so far and whilst Marshall isn’t automatically expected to walk back into the side, Slade has been happy with Marshall’s attitude and is glad to have him available once again,

“He has been training normally and is a top professional. He has been as good as gold during his suspension, despite speculation over an offer from West Bromwich Albion. He is focused and ready.”

Cardiff fans will be more than pleased to see that Marshall will be in their squad for the visit to Blackburn. Without a doubt he is one of the top goalkeepers in the Championship and wouldn’t look out of place in the Premier League. Everyone connected with the club will however be hoping he stays and assists in their quest to reach the top flight once again.
