According to a report today, Sheffield United striker Jamie Murphy is close to moving to Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion.

The deal could be up to a reported £2.5 million for the player, who can play as a winger or a striker.  This would make Murphy a big signing for Brighton, and it is believed that they have been chasing a winger for quite some time.

Previously in this summer’s transfer window, Brighton have been linked with Blackburn’s Ben Marshall however they seem to have ended their interest in the former Leicester player.  This has opened the door for Brighton to move for United’s Murphy.

Murphy has been in high demand this transfer window and has been the subject of transfer speculation for quite some time after impressing for Sheffield United.  He was previously linked with Leeds United but nothing came of this.

Murphy signed for Sheffield United in 2013 and has made 95 league appearances, scoring 17 goals.  Before this the forward played for Motherwell, where he made 176 league appearances and scored 34 goals.

This is a lot of experience for a player who is only 25.  With the best years of his career ahead of him, Murphy could be a great signing for Brighton.
