Luton boss with healthy selection headache over goalkeeper

Luton Town boss John Still admits that he faces a dilemma regarding who he starts in goal for Saturday’s home game against Oxford United. Speaking to Dunstable Today, Still has that and many more decisions to make regarding his starting eleven following their shock midweek win over Bristol City in the Capital One Cup.

The opening day of the season saw Luton travel to Accrington, where Elliot Justham started in goal. Justham started the final 15 matches of last season following an injury to Mark Tyler. Tyler himself was recalled for the game with Bristol City and is now up fully fit once again according to Still,

“Mark is up to speed now, so that’s a contentious decision that has got to be made in that area. I think Mark needed that extra game, which he had, so we’ll now decide how we go”.

Justham plied his trade around the non-league scene in the years prior to joining Luton in May 2013, following trials with Reading and West Ham United. In past seasons he has been the clubs designated cup goalkeeper but is now making a serious challenge to be the outright number one. Tyler is a vastly experienced shot stopper, making over 200 appearances since joining in 2009. A knee injury kept him out of the back end of the previous campaign, but triggered a one-year contract extension over the summer.

The only guaranteed absentee from the Luton squad this weekend will be former Colchester man Magnus Okuonghae. Stephen O’Donnell will be available despite being forced off against Bristol City with a slight knock. However Ryan Hall, Luke Guttridge and Alex Lawless are behind most players regarding fitness at this moment in time and are unlikely to be involved.
