Murphy set to make return from injury for Leeds at Doncaster

Leeds United could be set to welcome back key man Luke Murphy from injury for their Capital One Cup tie at local rivals Doncaster Rovers. Speaking to the Leeds United Official Site, manager Uwe Rosler says he will provide the squad with “another option” and it is a “great opportunity to have him involved”.

Murphy has endured a nightmare preparation for the season, having been forced to miss all five of the clubs pre-season friendly fixtures with a knee injury. He completed 60 minutes for the Under 21 side on Monday against Ipswich Town and that appears to have blown away the cobwebs in anticipation of a trip to the Keepmoat Stadium tonight.

Rosler has been impressed with the former Crewe Alexandra man and has more of less revealed he’ll be involved in some capacity in the squad,

“We have more or less a fit squad. Luke Murphy is coming back and will be another option for us. Thursday will be a great opportunity to have him involved at some stage. He came through his first outing – 60 minutes. I was very happy with what I saw, there were no problems afterwards”.

The former Brentford boss has declared he intends to take the competition very seriously and told the Yorkshire Evening Post he has very little choice in doing so,

“We take the cup seriously. We have one of the smallest squads in the country but every player we’ll put out at Doncaster is a player who would expect to start against Reading, against Bristol City, against Sheffield Wednesday (next week).”

The trip to Doncaster marks the first of four marks in the next ten days and Rosler may rest individuals such as Sol Bamba, a recent signing from Serie A side Palermo.
