Former Everton midfielder set for medical at Oxford

Oxford United are set to bolster their squad with the signing of industrious midfield player John Lundstram. The former Everton man, who last season has three loan spells with Blackpool, Leyton Orient and Scunthorpe United respectively, is set to move to The Kassam Stadium according to The Herald Series.

Following his release from Everton over the summer, Lundstram has been linked with League One clubs in the form of Wigan Athletic and Crewe Alexandra. However it looks as though The U’s are very close to sealing something of a coup in bringing the talented 21-year-old as their latest signing.

With a medical set to take place this morning, it is hoped that news of a transfer could be announced later today. Despite not making a senior appearance with the Goodison Park outfit, Lundstram have demonstrated his potential by appearing in England youth squads from Under 17 to Under 20. During that time he collected has also achieved 68 appearances, scoring two goals in the professional game.

It is not as if Oxford United are desperately searching for positive news at this moment in time. Still fresh in the minds of every player, staff member and supporter of the club is the memorable 4-0 victory away to Brentford in the Capital One Cup. With Lundstram being prepared to drop down to League Two, it is a sign of the ambition that manager Michael Appleton is showing this season.

It is hoped that Lundstram will be signed in time to be considering for selection on Saturday as Oxford United make the trip across to Luton Town, hoping to continue their unbeaten start to the season.
