Plymouth boss hopes Jervis injury is not too serious

Plymouth Argyle are sweating over the fitness of forward Jake Jervis, after injury forced him off early in the Capital One Cup defeat to Gillingham on Tuesday night. However manager Derek Adams has told Western Morning News that he hopes one of his key men is fit for the home clash with Portsmouth on Saturday.

Adams has revealed how the 24-year-old suffered a groin injury after contesting a header in the cup game and was duly replaced by recent loan signing Craig Tanner after just 11 minutes. The Green Army will be desperate to get him back on the field as soon as possible after Jervis entered the season in top form, scoring seven goals in pre-season.

Jervis played the full 90 minutes in Saturday’s season opening victory against AFC Wimbledon but Tanner left his mark and a series claim for a place in the side. He put his side ahead against Gillingham with a long range wonder strike and the Reading loan man thrived the opportunity to showcase his talents.

Nevertheless, Adams is hoping to have Jervis available on Saturday, with him saying,

“I’m not sure how long he will be (out for) yet. Hopefully he will be OK for the weekend but we will wait and see. He started to run about a wee bit after that, but it was important we took him off as quickly as possible.”

With Portsmouth to come on Saturday, Adams will take in a scouting trip tonight to see them take on Derby County in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night. Despite defeat to Gillingham, the Scot told the BBC how we was delighted with their performance and insisted how the fans would’ve left the stadium believing they have a strong team this season.
