Sky Sports have reported that Brighton & Hove Albion could be set to boost their defence with the signing of centre back Uwe Hünemeier from SC Paderborn. Tribal Football believes the fee is approximately £2.5 million and a medical is already said to have taken place.
The signing of Hünemeier will undoubtedly lead to many Seagulls supporters in thinking that star defender Lewis Dunk could now be on the move. The future destination of Dunk has been the big talking point surrounding Brighton this summer, with Championship rivals Fulham now the latest club to be linked with the 23-year-old.
Nevertheless, the impending arrival of Hünemeier will certainly improve The Amex Stadium outfit and he brings with him a vast array of experience at the highest level. He has featured 65 times for Paderborn since joining them in 2013, including last season in the Bundesliga. He was part of a side that was unfortunately relegated but picked up points against the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg.
After starting his career at Borussia Dortmund, the 29-year-old has come a long way since making his debut against Bayern Munich in December 2005, but the committed defender is sure to win the hearts of the Brighton faithful in the coming weeks.
The transfer is set to make Hünemeier Brighton’s most expansive ever defensive signing and it is hoped the transfer is will go through in time for him to make his debut at home against Blackburn on Saturday.
