The Championship season kicks off for Birmingham at St. Andrews with what could be a very tricky game.

Reading finished 19th last year, but they have plenty of quality players and have made some decent additions in Ali Al-Habsi and Orlando Sa especially.

However, last year, this game ended in a very one-sided manner, as the Blues ran away 6-1 victors. A Demarai Gray hat trick made the headlines that day and you wouldn’t bet against him scoring again, after he scored this goal last Saturday.

Since 2008, there has been eight meetings between the teams in the Championship, with both sides winning four, and no draws, so it’s likely to be three points to one team if history is to be believed. The Blues did the double last year.

Birmingham are bookies favourites to win at 13/10, and we fancy them to win again this year at St. Andrews.

However, if Reading can get at Jonathan Spector at centre-half, especially with their physical forwards, they could find some joy. Oliver Norwood is a player who can dictate things from a deep position, however Blues’ attacking midfielder Andrew Shinnie is well known for his work rate, so he might be able to stop Norwood’s influence.

It should be a closer game than last year, however we fancy Gary Rowett’s side to sneak it.
