Hull of a start for the Terriers
Manager Chris Powell takes a look at Hull City as the Terriers take on relegated Premier League opposition in their 2015/15 Championship campaign opener. Powell thinks that a clean run at pre-season with the team has given him time to work out some of the kinks in the team before the season starts. Speaking of the importance that pre-season has played in this process, Powell says, “Sometimes it is better that the areas that need improvement come to the fore at this stage, so we can really pinpoint them and improve.” Whilst he chopped and changed the playing system and formation during pre-season, Powell says that he knows how his team will line up as Huddersfield travel down the M62 and venture into East Yorkshire. He says of the way that systems will be utilised are “[that] we have a preferred way of playing, but equally we must ensure we have a few different options. We have to take each opponent on its merits. We must utilise everything we have in our squad by employing a shape that will earn us points and win us games.” Whilst acknowledging that things need to be adapted to suit opponents, Powell also stresses the need for the team to improve defensively if they are to gain more points next season.

Town fans outraged after Blackpool decision.
Terriers fans are up in arms after the decision to fine Blackpool £50,000 for failing to control their fans after the abandonment of the Blackpool vs Huddersfield game at Bloomfield Road due to a pitch invasion, whilst denying Huddersfield’s £50,000 claim to the Football League for recompense for away ticket sales on the day. On Tuesday (August 4) a Football League disciplinary commission ruled out compensation to Huddersfield and imposed a suspended three-point deduction on Blackpool. The refusal to reward compensation has left some Huddersfield fans fuming with one fan telling the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, “This decision by the authorities invites those fans who are that way out to consider stopping a match when it suits their club to get a game stopped. I feel like I’ve been mugged.” The Huddersfield Town Supporters’ Association is considering legal advice on their next steps in this dispute.
