Luton Town: Mackail-Smith two-year deal – Twitter reacts

With news that Craig Mackail-Smith, ex-Peterborough and Brighton striker signed for the Hatters on Saturday August 1, the long wait since June 26 was over. What was mooted as a ‘will sign Monday’, turned into a six-day wait with bated breath.

Once the ink had dried on his signature, and fans were assured that CM-S had signed on for two years, then Luton fans could breath out. A season where they are gearing up for a promotion push in their second season back in League football suddenly became brighter as they feasted their eyes on the man surely likely to become their #1 marksmen as well as their 11th summer signing. On days like that, when your club sign a ‘named’ striker…well you just cannot hold in the excitement and brimming joyfulness. Well, the following Luton Town fans couldn’t.

Yes, he’s not had the most injury-free or productive last couple of years of his footballing career, but he is a class striker all the same. For a League Two club, his signature is definitely something that can be seen as a coup; for Luton Town, a team with aspirations of playing at a higher level, Mackail-Smith could very well be a catalyst signing that propels them both onward and upward.
