Confirmed: Nelson to join Bees in the Hive

The Bees add Michael Nelson to their defensive ranks after a month of training with the 2015/16 squad, as confirmed on BarnetFC.com.

Scoring three goals last season from 33 appearances, Cambridge United decided not to renew their one year contract with Nelson, along with 8 other team members in the release of their end of year retained list.

Despite getting on a little in years, he becomes the seventh signing for the Bees this summer, giving us a glimpse of the starting-lineup to come.

Nelson believes his experience in League Two is paramount to a successful campaign. “I’ve made over 600 appearances at this level so I know what the league is about – both what it takes to survive in it and also get out of it so hopefully I can bring a little bit of that experience.

Although over some considerable years, 600 appearances is quite a feat and makes Nelson one of the more experienced members of the FL72.

Speaking on his relationship with head coach Allen, Nelson commented on their first encounter at Portsmouth many years ago. “I enjoyed my time down there and our paths have always crossed – when he was at Brentford and I was at Hartlepool and stuff like that – so it is nice to finally get the chance to work with him.”

As the Admiral sets sail on another voyage, we wish him the best.
