“The shorter the name, the better” says Hull City Chairman

Hull City chairman Assem Allam, has today branded the FA “amateurs” for not allowing him to change the name of the club, reports the Sun.

Allam, who planned to change the club name from Hull City to Hull Tigers, ignored months of protestations from his own fans and lodged a request to FA for the name change.

The request was knocked back and rejected by the FA, to the delight of the supporters, and to the dismay of their chairman.

“It is a sad day that most of the people who make the decisions are amateurs”, the Hull boss told The Sun.

“To go global, we need to market ourselves. The shorter the name, the better.

“”Look at Google, Apple, Twitter. You don’t go out to the world and say ‘We are Hull City Tigers Association Football Club’. If you do that, expect to fail.”

Allam was however, not convinced that the final decision should have fallen at the feet of FIFA.

““People involved with the Premier League understood what I was trying to do, because they are global. Premier League decisions should be made by the Premier League Council.”
