According to reports this afternoon, Blackburn Rovers are now favorites to sign departing Cardiff City striker Adam Le Fondre.
Earlier today, I reported on Le Fondre leaving Cardiff for a ‘mystery’ club based in the North of England. Le Fondre had already been linked with Bolton and Sheffield Wednesday, but it seemed these clubs would both miss out on his signature.
Now it is being suggested according to Wales Online that Blackburn Rovers are favorites to sign Le Fondre, despite the club being under transfer embargo.
Cardiff boss Russell Slade said “There is likely to be movement next week and there is a chance it is a club up north showing strong interest. From the player’s point of view he is desperate to sign for the right club in the right geographical area”.
These quotes obtained by Wales Online fit with the speculation over a move to Blackburn Rovers so a deal for Le Fondre could be on the cards.
Blackburn have just lost star man Rudy Gestede to Premier League Aston Villa and so need a replacement. At the moment a permanent deal for Le Fondre is out of the question due to Blackburn’s transfer embargo. However there are some of the opinion that the sale of Jordan Rhodes to rivals Middlesbrough would generate enough money to lift the embargo, thus leaving Rovers free to sign Le Fondre.
Whoever does sign Le Fondre will acquire a player already proven at Championship level, who just never got going at Cardiff City.
