Daniel Bentley – Southend United

Bentley had impressive season between the sticks at Roots Hall last season, even though he missed five games earlier on in the campaign due to a groin injury. Bentley was the Shrimpers hero after saving Sam Wood’s penalty in the play-off final at Wembley, Bentley’s consistency and heroics has attracted interest from the likes of QPR, West Ham and Hull City. Bentley is a product of Southend’s youth academy, he’s risen up the ranks and now finds himself wearing the number one shirt. Bentley featured in last seasons PFA League Two Team of the Season alongside team-mate Ben Coker.

Rumours suggest that QPR are willing to spend up to 1.6 million on Bentley, Hoops boss Chris Ramsey is looking to re-build his side with young talent. West Ham will be looking for a back-up keeper for Adrian, Premier League veteran Jussi Jääskeläinen is now training with Bradford City, leaving the Hammers with no suitable back-up.

If Southend do manage to hold on to Bentley, expect to see big performances from the youngster. It is likely that Southend’s defence will be tested regularly in League One and Bentley will have to help his side evade the relegation places.
