Highly-rated Arsenal youngster joins Barnsley

Barnsley have today announced the loan signing of Arsenal’s 17 year-old midfielder Dan Crowley on a loan deal until January with the former Aston Villa trainee currently one of the hottest prospects in Europe.

The Tykes managed to fend off interest from a ‘significant number’ of Championship clubs, notably including Birmingham City who were closely linked with the Coventry-born midfielder last month.

Crowley is yet to make his first team debut for the Gunners but spent last season with the U18 squad before being quickly promoted to the U21 setup following a string of impressive performances.

Barnsley’s manager Lee Johnson was quick to heap praise on the talent and potential which Crowley has:

“I’m delighted to welcome Dan on board. He is an exceptional and exciting talent who is very highly thought of at Arsenal and we are extremely pleased that we have been entrusted with his further development.

“This loan signing further evidences that Barnsley can persuade some of the country’s best young talent to come to us, even where there is stern competition. Undoubtedly, at just 17 years old, Dan is one of the best young players in his age group in Europe.
“Dan has genuine, top-level skill and quality. I am delighted Arsenal have chosen Barnsley to aid the development of this exceptional talent, as well as aiding us in our pursuit of promotion.”
