Arsenal midfielder and Barcelona product Jon Toral has joined Birmingham City on a season long loan. (bcfc.com)

The playmaker was on loan to Brentford last year and made 36 appearances, scoring five goals.

He is known for his ability to carry the ball and beat defenders, and forged a good partnership with Barcelona wonderkid Sergi Samper in his time at the club.

Toral’s arrival is more good news on a day that Andrew Shinnie extended his Birmingham stay by signing a new deal.

Shinnie will now have competition for his place – a welcome addition given the midfielder finished just two games last year.

Blues fans had been clamouring for an attacking midfielder after missing out on Italian midfielder Diego Fabbrini, and will hope that Toral fills the void.
