Burnley see bid rejected for League One youngster

According to the Shropshire Star today, Burnley have had an undisclosed bid for Shrewsbury Town youngster Josh Ginnelly rejected as the club felt they’d get the amount offered via a tribunal.

Ginnelly is highly rated at New Meadow and has been training with the Clarets for over a week after previously having trialed with Premier League new-boys Norwich City.

The 18 year-old started his career with Aston Villa but was released in 2013 and snapped up by the Shrews, going on to make three substitute appearances last season.

A blow to Shrewsbury is the fact Ginnelly’s agent has confirmed the player will not be signing a new contract which will inevitably lower their asking price for the midfielder.

Matt Williams, Shrewsbury’s chief executive, spoke on the matter:

“Burnley made us an offer but we turned it down and told them what we felt we’d get at a tribunal. They have left their offer on the table and gone away to look at their next step.

His agent told us he definitely won’t be signing for us.m not disclosing how much the offer was but if we’d have accepted it, it wouldn’t have made a difference to what we want to do.

“Burnley are doing what they think is right for their development group, but we’ve done some due diligence and research into similar cases that have gone to tribunal. We know where we should be and what we should be getting and we’ve told that to the agent and Burnley.”
