Watford in talks with Blackburn over their star striker

According to the Guardian today, Watford are in negotiations with Blackburn over a potential move for Benin striker Rudy Gestede with Rovers holding out for a bid in the region of £7 million.

The Hornets have already had a £4 million offer rejected at the start of the month but it is understood the 26 year-old is keen on a move to the Premier League with Norwich also interested.

Gestede was meant to join Crystal Palace in January but the deal collapsed due to Rovers wanting to hold out for a higher price than the £3.5 million offered by the Eagles, but the goal scoring form the striker showed towards the end of the season has increased his price tag.

Born in France but opting to play for Benin in 2013, Gestede finished last season with a record of 20 goals and four assists in 39 league games making him one of the Championships hottest strikers.

After starting his career in France with Metz it was Cardiff City that bought the forward to England in 2011, although Gestede struggled for goal scoring form with the Bluebirds and managed to net just seven goals in 55 games.

Since joining Blackburn in 2013, has gone on to post up an impressive tally of 33 league goals in just 66 games over the last two seasons, leading many to believe he can replicate that form in England’s top tier.
