Spurr strike sees off Leeds

Tommy Spurr gave his side a deserved win at Ewood Park after scoring the only goal in the War of the Roses derby today. The Leeds born defender struck home a fine volley past Paddy Kenny just before half-time, and it proved to be enough for the Lancashire side who are now four points off the play-offs. Blackburn had the better of the first half with veteran David Dunn leading the attack forcing Kenny into a fine save early on. Jake Kean in the Blackburn goal had a quiet afternoon but pulled off an excellent save from Danny Pugh who was through on goal after some neat build-up play. Chris Taylor also went close for Rovers before Spurr gave Blackburn the lead. Leeds, backed by almost 7000 fans, found it hard to break down a solid Blackburn back-line and the home side went close again when a fine Josh King volley forced Kenny into another excellent save. Leeds attempted a late siege but it wasn’t to be as their three match winning run came to an end.
