5. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Arsenal for £9.66 million

The pacey 21 year-old burst onto the scene during the 2010-11 season when he became a starter for Southampton and scored nine goals in League One. He had joined the Saints as a seven year old and progressed up through their youth ranks and academy to make his debut at the end of the 2009-10 second and set him up for his breakthrough year.

His potential was clear to be seen as the England international was just 17 at the time of his goal scoring exploits, and so after just one season of first team football he was snapped up by Arsenal where he has gone on to make over 100 appearances. After being included in England’s Euro 2012 squad, Oxlade-Chamberlain became the second youngest player ever (behind Wayne Rooney) to represent England at the tournament.
