Filling your home ground – Every football team’s 12th man?

The Championship

Top 5

  • Norwich 96.88% full (11th place overall)
  • Derby County 87.01% (21st place overall)
  • Bournemouth 85.54% (22nd place overall)
  • Rotherham 85.19% (23rd place overall)
  • Brentford 85.08%  (24th place overall)

Bottom 2

  • Wigan 51.48% (56th place overall)
  • Blackburn 47.54% (61st place overall)

No surprise that the top three spots were taken by a combination of clubs that were either promoted (Norwich and Bournemouth) or pushing for promotion before dropping away (Derby). Norwich top out the Championship with their Carrow Road ground being 96.88% full with an average attendance of 26,370 against a capacity of 27,220 whilst Derby came in at 87.01% capacity but with a higher average attendance at the iPro Stadium (29,232) against a higher capacity ground (33,597). Rotherham (23rd place) and Brentford (24th place) are highly placed in the table with average game day crowds of 10,240 and 10,858 respectively at their New York and Griffin Park stadiums. At the other end of the scale, Lancashire didn’t fare well with Blackburn’s Ewood Park being the lowest ranked team based on capacity of ground filled (47.54% – 61st place overall) with relegated Wigan not faring much better (51.48% – 56th place overall) at their DW Stadium.

My team? Leeds United finished in 40th place overall as struggles against relegation saw the Whites only fill Elland Road to 63.46% of its 37,900 capacity.
