Sheffield Wednesday plot ambitious move for Chelsea’s star striker

According to reports, free-spending Sheffield Wednesday are keen on a move to bring last seasons Championship Player of the Year Patrick Bamford to Hillsborough in their bid for promotion.

Despite the player himself stating earlier this summer that he wishes to stay with the Premier League champions to fight for first team football, that ambition may not be shared by boss Jose Mourinho.

Bamford was instrumental in the Middlesbrough team last season which made it to the play-off final as he scored 17 goals in 38 league games from his attacking role.

His performances won him the Football League Championship Player of the Year and he was among the three shortlisted players for the Championship Young Player of the Year award.

The 21 year-old is yet to make a first team appearance for the Blues despite joining the London outfit in 2012 for a £1.5 million fee from Nottingham Forest.
