Jason Koumas announces retirement

Former Tranmere Rovers, Wigan Athletic and Cardiff City midfielder Jason Koumas has called it a day.

The 35-year-old, who won 34 international caps with Wales, started with Tranmere before a £2.5 million switch to West Bromwich Albion in back in 2002. He spent five years with the Midlands club before joining Wigan Athletic for £5.3 million.

He rejoined Rovers in 2013 after two loan spells with Cardiff City and made over 400 league appearances during his career.

Koumas told Tranmere’s website that he’s happy with his career and he knew it was the right time to hang up his boots. He added: “I wish I could have gone out on a high but it wasn’t to be. Despite the results, I really enjoyed my last two seasons back at Tranmere and am glad I made the decision to return to the club.”
