Bolton lining up a bid for former Liverpool and England stopper

According to the Bolton News, the Whites have been linked with a move for recently-released keeper Chris Kirkland as the Wanderers search for competition for Ben Amos.

The 34 year-old was released by the Owls following a three year stint at Hillsbrough – making nearly 100 appearances during that time.

Capped at international level by England in 2006, the keeper started his career with Coventry City before being snapped up by Premier League giants Liverpoool.

Kirkland spent five years at Anfield, mainly being used as a back-up keeper, before a loan spell to Wigan in 2007 led to a permanent move to the DW Stadium.

Four seasons as the No.1 with the Latics was ended when Iranian keeper Ali Al-Habsi was bought in and replaced the Leicester-born stopper as the first choice keeper.

The man between the sticks has said he isn’t going to rush into a move this summer, and wants the guarantee of first-team football:

“This has been a really tough decision and one that I have mulled over through the summer but I have decided to move on.

“I want a new challenge at this stage of my career. Everyone loves to play first team football and I am no different.”
