Barcham Jumps Ship

Andy Barcham has sealed his much-anticipated move from Portsmouth to AFC Wimbledon in what looks to be the start of a mini exodus from the League Two club.

News had broken on Monday that Barcham along with Johnny Ertl and James Dunne after the three were left behind while the rest of the team travelled to Portugal.

Now Barcham has ended his injury-hit two year spell on the South Coast, making 53 appearances, by mutual consent. Pompey manager Paul Cook had said yesterday to the Portsmouth News that:

“Barchy is one that could possibly be looking to go elsewhere. If he decides not to go elsewhere then he would be welcomed back into the squad. It does not mean the end.”

The 28-year-old winger becomes Wimbledon’s second signing of the summer as they look to improve their attacking options. Dons boss Neil Ardley, speaking to Wimbledon’s in-house tv station Dons Player, said:

“I am delighted because I have been chipping away at this one for a while. I want to get him back to the sparkling form he was in at Scunthorpe. He will certainly fit into several dynamics of ways that we want to play.”

Barcham did have 12 months left on his contract and is now the twelfth player to leave Fratton Park as Cook continues a major overhaul of his squad.
