Sol Bamba speaks – Interview with LUTV

When Sol Bamba signed on the dotted line and became a Leeds United player, many sighs of relief were heard echoing around Elland Raad and the murmurations spread out amongst the legions of Leeds fans. The defensive rock was back, Leeds United had an anchor around which they could start rebuilding, start to build strength from the back so to speak.

But what did the big man think?

When asked about the return to preseason,

“Obviously a lot of running and a lot of football players don’t like that but it’s got to be done to get the fitness level back on.”

Sol Bamba has a full run of preseason ahead of him, something that he didn’t have the luxury of when Leeds threw him into the deep end of what was a relegation battle at the start of January. His performances were, well, startling considering that match fitness was coming game-by-game

He is then asked about how relieved he is to finally be at Elland Road and as a full-time White.

“It’s great to obviously signing my contract here. I always said I wanted to be man on the club? so it’s good news and obviously I need to kick on.”

It’s this spirit that Leeds United fans saw last season, the willingness to just “kick onb” and give his all that really made the solid Ivorian a firm crowd favourite at Elland Road. No quarter was asked of his teammates and none given to opponents as Sol Bamba simply got stuck in, wearing his heart on his sleeve.

The interviewer then asks him whether there was any possibility of the transfer not happening over the summer.

“No, I mean to be fair it’s negotiation, it can take some time or it can be quick but on my mind it was always my target but it was an easy decision in the end to be honest.”

It was that “easy decision” that allowed Leeds fans to heave that sigh of relief. In Sol Bamba, Leeds United have possibly made the best preseason signing they could have up to press. Anyone else joining will be coming to a team that has a solid defensive backbone, a rock around which their own performances can be based and against which, hopefully, opponent’s performances flounder like ships hurled onto jagged reefs.
